The transformational $19 million-dollar redevelopment of the Essex building on Columbus Street which has been sitting unoccupied since 2005 and facing inevitable demolition. Developer Urban Restoration has renamed the building to The Shumaker as a tribute to the building’s former use as a shoe factory.

With the help of state and federal tax credits aimed at historical beautification, which Urban Restoration is known for. The Shumaker will reopen as a thriving mixed-use development that includes 60 market-rate apartments, short term rentals and provide up to five commercial and retails users space while maintaining historic features and honoring its past, creating huge economic impact in downtown Lancaster, Ohio.
